Jcpenney in Cleveland, Tennessee - Cashier fails to take security off and give receipt

2.3
Details
I went to the jcpennys in my area to get some pants for work like I do usually, well as I paid for them and walked out the lady didn't take the security off and failed to give me a receipt or even tell me to have a good day. So I went home and came back to get it taken off no big deal right? Well another lady then accused me of stealing the pants, and I told her the cashier name was Anna and I was there at 4-4:30 and I paid her 37.31 and even described the exact dollars I gave to her, we she went to watch the cameras and then had to ask the cashier if it was really me. And then got angry with me because I tried to take it off myself because I live about 45 minutes from the store and I didn't feel like wasting gas for something that should have been done right.

Jcpenney in Houston, Texas - Swimsuit mark up???

Swimsit top was marked with a sticker for $38.00 sale was 30% off should be $26.60, price Under the $25.00 ! Stopped manager to ask how this was ok and what the price would be at checkout, She tried to keep walking and said that it would be a better price at the check out. When asked how she preceded to explain that people want sales and coupons. I let her know that the math does not add up she left. At the check out I asked for a price check before purchase, again the manager was present and left as I got to the register. The cashier checked the price and said it would be 19.99 I said I wold take it. She scanned it on the register and it rang as $33.00, She was confused and scanned it as a price check again and then said " O 19.99 is the price if you were returning it after 30 days you would get refund of 19.99. I could not believe it. I told her the price was 38.00 over the 25.00 price and it was suppose to be 30% off. I do not believe I want any of the items and that this was all dishonest and I left. I will not honor a store that wants to make a fool of its customers. What a shame I have always trusted the name of JC Penney's no more. Just be honest and fair! I know yo need to be make a profit but not at the expense of making fools of people.Brenda Smith Katy TX

In response to Nancy :

JCP employees are under no illusions .

There is no such thing as a "fair and honest" company anymore .

Sad but true.

With a regular price of $38, and at 30% off the price for the swimsuit should have been $26.60.

I don't know where the associate would have come up with $19.99.

I'm so sick and tired of employees of JCP replying to posts regarding the huge mark up in prices because customers demand coupons. JCP was in deep financial trouble long before they stopped the coupons and added "FAIR" pricing.

Employees of JCP are brainwashed into thinking they are working for a fair honest company. Not everyone gets coupons- so a company should be fair to ALL shoppers.

Wake up employees, the company is billions and billions of dollars in debt, stocks are down over 60% from 5 years ago and your job is to slap stickers on merchandise that is already overpriced! Welcome to the "NEW" JCP!

@Nancy

Your point is? We keep responding because *** customers like yourself don't seem to get how things work in retail.

At least with the new way, we had fair and square pricing which meant you didn't need a coupon or didn't have to come to the store at a specific time to get a "sale" or great deal. The company gave back what customers asked for now: sales and coupons. Bottom line, JCP gives coupons to their loyal customers.

You don't think we know how the company is in debt? We obviously do.

According to everything I have heard about the pricing system at JCP is that when they tried having the price and one price, all dollars, with no cents added, they quit having sales and coupons. They had so many complaints that they raised the prices by putting a sticker over the price on the tag, and then having sales.

Now people like you are complaining that they raised the prices.

Well you can't have it both ways. Grow up!!!!!

@anonymous

You obviously can't do the math!or failed to read and comprehend. No matter the coupons or sales discount it does not come up to the correct price when you have 2 price tags, and a discount of 30% and no coupon.

and I never said I like coupons or sale adds!

I like fair prices and honesty. Period.

@Dear S.D.

Then, all you have to blame is your fellow customers that wanted sales and coupons. Fair and square everyday low pricing was great, but not many customers responded to this change.

So yes prices are now raised so it can be put on sale, and no you it doesn't go to the low everyday price even with a sale or perhaps a coupon. JCP is not the only store that does this. Macy's Dilliards, Sears, etc all do it. So i'm sick of hearing all of the customers complain about what they asked for.

It's unfortunate that some of them didn't understand this is how it was before everyday low pricing. Too busy buying into all of this psychology that to get a great deal, they expect sales and coupons :grin This is industry standard. The company has to profit somehow. Doesn't matter if you peel the sticker off and see a lower price.

The point is the new sticker is the current price so no you won't get the price underneath the sticker lol. A lot of you obviously have no idea how retail works.

Jcpenney in Carlisle, Pennsylvania - Credit Card

I bought 1 pair of yoga pants and one pair of sneakers. The total came out to be 30 dollars, the cashier told me that I would receive a 20% discount with my first purchase on the Jcp credit card. So what did I do? I applied and received the discount. I have yet to step into a Jcp or bought anything from them since that one purchase. My bill was being charged a saving solutions $9.95 a month. Being at college I was unaware of this charge because I told my father to pay the 20 dollar fee from my pants and the card would be used after that. My father has paid over 50 dollars to these fees, I called into the customer service and they said they would take those fee's off and refund our money. I told them I would not pay on the card until the fee's were taken off and the money returned. What I don't understand is how did a 10 dollar yoga pants and a 20 dollar pair of shoes end up to being over 60+ dollars! I have contacted them yet nothing happens. My credit score is going to be ruined because of this. How am I suppose to fix this?

Jcpenney in Kirkland, Washington - Cashier and manager at the 18600 Alderwood Mall Parkway Lynnwood WA

I Was In The Store in Alderwood Mall Parkway Lynnwood WA 11/09/2012- looking for Christmas gifts for my daughter . I bought the thing for $ 91 and when I got home and checked the price on the receipt I saw that the price is different does not coincide with the tags an clothing . I went back to the store that would adjust a price and I have a $10 coupon. So.. when I explain to cashier what I need, she canceled my receipt and return money in the credit card after that she adjust the price and used my coupon an new receipt ... The problem start when she used the same card ... she tell me that card is not working and I don't have money an the card and I have to call my credit card or pay with different payments... she refused to help me .. and it's start irritated me because I already in the store for 25 min.. and we done nothing... she start argue with me and I ask her to call store manager...when the manager come.. he explained her how to correct the problem.. but he started telling me he can't take my coupon because I only spend in the store $91 and it's have to be $100, It's shook me that he don't now that coupon I have an the mail one week ago from my last purchases of $200 in JCP store, not from this purchases of $91..So now I start argue with the manager of JCP store...I had enough ...and what I see that a cashier stands and laughs at me. . It's sad because I was were happy before I came to the store and I just want buy a present for my little girl... I was very upset with a lowest level customer service in the store and I had enough time to see that workers do not know their jobs.

Jcpenney in Dallas, Texas - Hook, bait, and switch scheme JC Penney uses for instant credit

My girlfriend and I went to JC Penney in San Antonio to buy a dozen shorts and some polo shirts. After spending about two hours selecting our clothes we were enticed to apply for credit by the cashier. The hook, bait, and switch scheme which JC Penney used was to offer me instant credit, JC Penney Reward $10.00, and a 20% off my entire purchase. I applied for credit on the spot, and within a few minutes the cashier told me I had to call this number 1-800-448-1900. I was told by the cashier that my application was pending and I COULD NOT get my 20% off which JC Penney promised. What a disappointment, this retailer uses some shady tactics to obtain customers. Whatever happened to JC Penney's "simple, honest, fair & square" commitment to customers??? It is a bunch of crock! I WILL NOT be buying anything else at ANY JC Penney store and will tell my fellow Marines, Soldiers and Sailors about your company's dishonest practices. I spent $192.62 and my girlfriend spent $107.04 a very disappointing purchase for both of us. Don't be surprised when I return my items for a complete refund. Sincerely, TOTALLY dissatisfied customer. -GySgt Salazar U.S. Marines

You're right, if I was denied credit. However, JCP told me on the phone that it wasn't dissapproved.

Three weeks later I received my JCP credit card in the mail! I went back to the store and they refunded the entire 20% difference!!! I purchased the clothing because I really needed some shorts and polos.

Now the problem is solved! Thanks!

Ummm...it's not really a bate and switch. If you get approved, you get the 20% off; when your card comes, you get the $10 rewards coupon.

You didn't get approved.

Therefore, you didn't qualify for either the discount or rewards coupon. GE Money who owns the JCP credit card didn't approve you--no approval, no discount.

If you were so upset, why did you even bother buying the clothing?

I agree with a lot of these comments, if she was paying so close attention to the cashier talking, she should have notice the purse not being scanned. In that case, she should have spoke up, since she did not speak up that is basically the same as stealing.

Either way people need to pull there heads out of there *** and pay attention.

I don't know how many times I've corrected a cashier for double charging me on an item. Just saying.

Jcpenney in Baltimore, Maryland - Eye wear returned 3 times crooked over 4 months

over 4 months has passed and jcpenney optical has sent back to me the same crooked frames hoping i would be *** enough to take them. the customer service person at the waldorf md store has attempted to resolve this farce. the regional manager was involved but obviously doesnt fear loss of job because i got the same pair back again, nosebridge crooked. i am so insulted. i am cancelling my jc penney card. it was just 2 years ago i was nearly robbed just outside their doors and the cashier refused to call security or the police. jc penney has gone very much down in their integrity.

Actually, they probably have a very similar policy to most other retail stores. We are not allowed to give out bags, because often when we do that person goes right around and uses it to put unpaid merchandise in it. LP departments watch for that sort of thing - and sure, you might get indignant and say you aren't a thief, but you're looking at one of many corporations that treat their workers like thieves that only incidentally haven't been caught yet.

Still, I think she should have been able to swing something since you already had a paid-for purchase. Perhaps 'nasty cashier' was just a little strict on the rules while trying to do her job (or trying to keep 'nice cashier' with a secure job), or maybe JCP's loss prevention policies are a bit harder than my company's. Either way, I personally guarantee you that 'nasty cashier' wasn't opening her mouth with the express purpose of ruining your day, even if she said something she knew you weren't going to like. It's a hard thing to do, for many reasons - the least of them being that she gets stuck with the designation of 'nasty' for doing her job. Retail employees are treated like dirt half the time even when they manage not to say anything that offends the consumer's delicate sensibilities regarding the mistaken notion that 'the customer is always right' even when immutable store policy says he is most certainly wrong. No one in their right mind willing sets out for confrontation with the customer, because more often than not that leads to the cashier getting into a load of trouble (customer complaints, customer service surveys etc) even when they are following something the corporation demanded of them earlier in the day.

I'm sorry you had such an unsatisfactory experience, but I can't help but feel a bit bad for the cashiers, stuck as they are between a rock and a very, very hard place.

Replacing gift cards are never easy. Everyone these days says treat it like cash.

However Penney's does a fantastic job at replacing gift cards!

He handled it well - but there is an even faster way they have came up with to replace these gift cards! :)
