J.C. Penny was built on quality products at reasonable prices including Towncraft.

In the last few years the store has tried to compete with Macy's and it has been a failure and is continuing to be.

People came into Penny's and shopped for reasonably priced items such as Towncraft and if they saw "branded" products they purchased them on occasion.

For years I purchased many pairs of Towncraft shorts for myself and my relatives overseas. Recently I discovered they do not carry them any more.

This mentality of dropping a well made products to try to sell people on competing brands like Macy's is an utter failure.

I have been a customer of J.C. Penny since I was 8 years old buying T shirts and underpants and now those are being cheapened. I fully expect a store where I have done loyal business with to go out of business because of their failed mentality in not continuing to carry items like the Towncraft brand. Please do not tell me Towncraft went out of business...You put them out of business. I am angry.

Ditto. Reading these comments reassures me Iโ€™m not imagining things.

Since my โ€œStanfordโ€ underwear was falling apart within 2-3 years of buying it, and Iโ€™ve older Towncraft that is still holding up ... Iโ€™ve been reluctant to shop with Pennys any further. Last 2 years Iโ€™m seeing the dress shirts Iโ€™ve relied on for 40 years to also be cheapened ( up til now Iโ€™ve either worn them out or they get damaged from wear or stood stains). I was also always pissed because I could rarely find 19โ€ necks in the stores until I found them in the online catelogue 13 years ago ( I have very broad shoulders and the 19โ€ collar is the only shirt thatโ€™s sized enough where Iโ€™m not choking or look like I have too small of a shirt).

Quality/reliability at a fair price always sells. If folks want cheap they go to Walmartโ€™s

I totally agree with your comment. I was also looking for Towncraft shorts and it says since 1927.So, if they were able to survive several wars and dress styles why is Penny's not carrying them anymore.. frustrating!

I also agree. Towncraft was affordalble quality. Haven't been to Penney's since I found out they don't carry t'craft boxer briefs.

That is the truth.

We also purchased Towncraft shorts regularly over the years; we have hardly shopped at JCP since they changed all their regular merchandise.

Guest

Yep. I wore Towncraft boxers for years.

It was simply the best out there- comfortable fit, well made, plenty of choices- solid white, pastels, stripes, plaid. It wasn't bad enough that they dropped this line (if anyone else picked it back up, I haven't been able to find it), but they had the nerve to say that the new line, Stafford, was formerly known as Towncraft- as if it was the exact same product and was simply a name change. Not even close.

The Stafford line was garbage- cheap waist band, no room in the leg openings, and a much thinner fabric. I think this was only one small piece of their bigger overall blunder when they hired the guy from Apple to be their CEO and he promptly drove the store into the ground.

Bad decision by JC Penny

Totally agree. I went to buy some today and now realize I canโ€™t find them.

Agree!

I still wear my Towncraft size 36 briefs, but they are getting thin. I went 2 years ago to get new ones and was told they weren't available anymore.

So I bought some other brand. When I tried them on I couldn't believe skimpy they were! If I wanted to to wear bikini briefs I would have bought those instead of "full cut" which is what they had on the package.

Since then I have purchased various brands only to take them back because they don't come up high enough on my hips. I'm only 6'2" but I suppose my next move is to go to a big and tall store.

yea what he said you really let us down bring back the good quality t shirts penny towncraft

JC Penney used to have alot of great clothing, pants and shorts. Not anymore.

They did away with the good product, went to the high end brand name stuff that's not worth a nickel and does not wear like the old stuff. Maybe that's why they're losing customers and having to close stores. Towncraft slacks, 82% polyester and 18% wool wore like iron. Maybe that explains it.

They were so good, people had to buy them every 5 years or so.

Towncraft shorts, had the elastic stretch band across the back of the shorts, great for golfers. You'd twist at the waist in your backswing and the shorts would stretch but hold nicely. They don't make them anymore.

I guess they've chased customers away.

That's why they're closing stores, laying off people and getting close to bankruptcy. Hey, JC Penney management, if you're reading this, re-align your *** and get back on track.

JcPenny announced this month they are closing 130-140 stores.

I used to wear the towncraft t shirt in high school. They were very popular.

I wish J.

C. Pennys would bring them back !

Guest

Seriously JCP????? I went to get my Towncraft underwear, and the clerk tells me they no longer sell them.

Every other brand I have tried sucks. BRING BACK TOWNCRAFT!

Guest

When I was a kid in the 1960s if you wanted to be cool you wore Towncraft T-shirts. As an adult I learned through comparative shopping that there was a reason for the Towncraft reputation: affordable yet high quality underwear that fitted just right and lasted long.

I have been frustrated with every brand of jockey shorts I have tried except Towncraft, and so since we don't have a Penny's here in Jupiter Florida any more I special ordered mine and had them delivered to a retailer who carried Penny's products. These finally wore out and so this fall I drove forty minutes to the nearest Penny's only to find that Penny's has discontinued their own distinguished line! I consulted with the salesman to find the best substitute but sure enough, it sucks! The Towncraft brand was what drew me to Penny's and I would purchase many other products while I was there.

I will not be returning. It seems there is only one way for Penny's to go from here and that is down!

Sadly, this has been my experience. I love that old brand.

I'd even pay extra just to have it back. The shorts I wear now bind up.

They are cheap. Oh for the days of Towncraft!

Guest

I have been buying Towncraft underwear for over 60 years and all of a sudden Penny's does not stock it. Towncraft was a good value but, most importantly, it was a great fit.

The replacements suck.

Now I find out that Penny's will no longer carry the brand.

With this kind of management no wonder Penny's is going down the tubes. Goodbye, Penny's
